The best role model for girls

In our class, we learned about disney princesses and wrote essays about them. In those many disney princesses, I think that the best role model for girls is Merida, shich came out in the movie"Brave". Merida likes riding horses, shooting arrows and having adventures. There are two reasons why I think that Merida is the best role model for girs. The first reason is that she does things on her own will and the second reason is that she is very active for a girl.

In the past, and in the present too, women and girls are expected to follow men or their parent's orders. In the chosun dinesty, women couldn't even go out of the house without men's permission. However, Merida doesn't follow her parent's orders if she thinks that they are wrong and she is right. For example, in the scene of the three sons of the leaders of the three tribes comepete for getting Mereida as a wife, her mother doesn't let her shoot at the competition. However, Merida doesn't follow her mother's orders and shoots three arrows and hits all of them in the center of the target.  Girls are not expected to do things like this and they are not supposed to oppose to their parent's orders.

The second reason is that she is veriy active. Many people think that boys need to play outside and run around but girls need to stay quietly in their houses and read a ;book or something simmilar to that. However, Merida is the exact opposite of this. The thing that she likes the most is riding her horse and shooting arrows in the forest. Her mother, however, doesn't want her to be like this because she is a princess. I think that Merida's personality will be best for girls because she is active, not the way most parents want girsl to be like.

In all the disney princesses from snow shite to Ariel to Merida, I think that Merida is the best role model for girls. This is because she does things on her own will and she is very active and adventurous.

BRAVE

In the movie "Brave", a princess called Merida changes her mother and herself by meeting a witch and channging her mother into a bear. Her mother wants Merida to be perfect. She doesn't let her play with her bow, which she likes most in the world. And then, she finds the witch's house. The witch gives her a cake and the cake turns her mother into a bear. To turn her mother back to a human, she has to mend the tapestry she ripped with her sword. I think that Merida's behavior of wanting to do only doing only what she likes is bad. This is because of two reasons. The first reason is because it brings a fight and the second reason is that It will change one's fate.

 

The first reason is that it will bring fights. In the movie, Merida's mother wants her to be neat, clean and perfect. However, Merida herself wants to ride her horse and shoot arrows in the forest. That is why they had a fight. Because of this fight, Merida tares the tapestry apart and finds the witch to change her mother. The witch changes her mother into a bear. Like this, fights can lead to very unpleasant ends. If she had interacted with her mother well, they wouldn’t have had a big fight. To interact well and not have a fight, one has to respect the other’s opinions and not do everything one wants.

 

The next reason is that It will change one’s fate. If one only does what one wants, one will not learn what he or she needs in their lives. In society, we cannot survive with only doing what they want. They have to do what the society can feel that it is useful. If Merida only did archery and riding horses for the rest of her life and not follow her mother’s words that she needs to be neat, she wouldn’t have been use of anything except of being a soldier and princesses doesn’t become soldiers.

 

I think that Merida’s behavior of doing what she only wants to do is bad for two reasons. The first reason is that it will bring fights and the second reason is that it will effect one’s future.

Response Essay

 In TED talk,  a girl called Adora Svitak talked about adults and children. She said that adults should learn from children. She said that the children will grow up to be like the adults and even better. Well, I agree with her opinion that adults should respect children more. This is because of two reasons.

 The first reason is the creativity. Young children who's age is about seven have a lot of strange and interesting ideas. According to the speech, adults only think about the logic and the possibility, so they make things that are useful but not interesting. Children, however, have very interesting ideas. They dream about beautiful things in their imagination. She said that the glass museum in her hometown have events that make the children draw out what they would make with glass. She said that the museum got some very good ideas from that event. 

 The next reason is possibilities. Children didn't grow up yet and have a lot of time to learn and be mature. Adults have grown up and do not have the time to grow up again. Normal adults rarely turn into really famous people. Children have a lot of time to prepare to be a good person. For example, Steve Jobs became famous because he liked computers when when he was a child. 

These are the reasons why I think Adora Svitak is right. Adults should respect children.

30day challenges

I started on my 30 day challenges in glps camp. well, almost everybody here did it since, most of them is in the writing class. I made about five of them but I will only write about three.

the first one is using english everyday. well, this is the easiest one to do because when I am in this camp, the teachers and the program assistants make us use english all the time. we are allowed to use korean at the dorms, math, and p.e. Speaking korean in the dorms isn't allowed actually but even the p.a. s use korean when the come to our dorms.

The second one is studying everyday. Well, this one was easy too because there is the 1st study period and the 2nd study period. the second study period is optional but you have to study at the first study period. The students in our dormitory always studies in the first study period.

The last challenge is writing in the diary everyday. I think that I am not doing this well. I don't write in my diary everyday. But at least I write it 3 or 4 times a week. This is  very good for me because when I am at home, I rarely write in my diary. Maybe, when I go back, I would write in my diary everyday.

Introduction

My name is LiBin Jung and I am from Korea. I am going to talk about myself. I am going to talk about what I hate, what I like and finally, my hobbies.

I don't like sports, and I absolutely hate running. Also, I hate soccer more than running, and I hate baseball more than soccer. I rarely play sports unless I really have to, but there is one sports that I like and this is table tennis. I like this because first of all, I don't have to run around much. and next, I learned it from a teacher and I know it well. Also, I hate mushrooms. when it comes out for a meal, I never eat it but just eat other dishes.

The food I like is spaghetti and every kinds of meat. I suppose that everybody likes meat. I don't know why I like spaghetti. Also I like reading books, especially, English books.  I think that there are less fun Korean books than English books. I also like cubes. I have done it about two months and now, I can solve it in about 50 seconds.

Lastly, My hobbies are speed-cubing and reading books. As you can see, these are what I wrote in 'What I like'. I don't like playing outside playing sports but just like playing inside the house or reading books. I think the reason why I like reading books is because I stayed in  the house for hours since I was young.
